Ingredients

  • 2 lb 900 g russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 4 cups 360 g small broccoli florets
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups 480 ml milk
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 3/4 tsp fine salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups 170 g shredded cheddar

Method

  2. Steam or blanch broccoli for 2 minutes, then drain well.
  3. Melt butter in a saucepan. Whisk in flour for 1 minute, then gradually whisk in milk. Cook until slightly thickened. Stir in mustard, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and 1 cup cheese.
  4. Layer half the potatoes, broccoli, and sauce in the dish; repeat. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 35 minutes.
  5. Uncover, add remaining cheese, and bake for 10 to 15 minutes, until bubbling and the potatoes are tender. Rest for 10 minutes.
